UPDATE: Route 114, shut in No. Andover and Lawrence at 495 during commute, has been reopened

LAWRENCE - Wires down on Route 114 caused a traffic mess this morning at the Lawrence-North Andover line near the shopping plaza. But the road was reopened at approximately 10:45 a.m., except for one lane.

For those heading east on Route 114, officers told them to turn around and get on Interstate 495 north to Massachusetts Avenue or to seek another route.

People heading west were ordered by North Andover police to turn onto Waverly Road and head either toward Andover and Route 28 or toward Massachusetts Avenue and North Andover.

People coming off the highway created major traffic back-ups on Waverly Road and Routes 28 and 125.

A Verizon truck was observed in front of Dunkin' Donuts, re-stringing the downed wires.

Chief John Romero said police believe a high truck may have dragged the wire down.
