Police: Fake cop sexually assaulted motorist

DANVERS — Police say a man with a uniform, badge and blue lights on his car pulled a woman over on State Road during daylight on Tuesday, ordered her out of the vehicle and then sexually assaulted her on the roadside.

The brazen incident occurred around 6:15 p.m., when a man in a black Dodge Charger with blue grill lights stopped a 33-year-old woman and asked for her license, according to a press release and an interview with Officer Eric Clarizia.

The man, who was described as being white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches, with dark hair, was wearing a dark-colored uniform at the time, complete with a badge. He didn’t say why he’d pulled the woman over, but he did take her license and return to his vehicle — supposedly to check her information.

When he returned, he told the woman she wasn’t “in the system” and demanded she exit the vehicle, Clarizia said. When the woman complied, he conducted a curbside pat-frisk that began on her shoulders, worked its way to her breasts, proceeded to her midsection, and then led to her buttocks, which he squeezed. He also “searched” the crotch area. All of the contact was on top of the woman’s clothing.

The woman began to sense that “things didn’t add up” during the pat-frisk, Clarizia said.

After the encounter, the man handed her license back and said she was free to go. He was last seen traveling in the Charger on State Road in the direction of Route 62.

The woman called police to report the incident about 8 p.m. She didn’t report that the man had a gun or any police patches on his shoulders.

Police are requesting that anyone with information — and anyone who might have witnessed the incident — contact detectives at 978-774-1388.
