Labbe gets 4 to 8 years in prison

BRENTWOOD — A Haverhill, Mass., woman will spend four to eight years in prison for attempting to harm two dogs, causing one to die and another to receive lifesaving surgery.

Jamie Labbe, 35, was sentenced this afternoon in Rockingham Superior Court to seven and a half to 15 years, but three and a half to seven years were suspended for good behavior.

The former Sandown and Plaistow resident was convicted by a jury in August on five counts of attempted animal cruelty and a single count of criminal mischief. She faced up to 42 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Labbe was found guilty of trying to torture two German shepherds in an act of revenge against her boyfriend. Labbe was living with Kurt Krohn on North Road in Sandown when she was charged in April 2011.

One dog, Pebbles, was taken to a Boston veterinary hospital, where it was discovered the dog swallowed a metal clamp and a 6-inch pipe. Pebbles later died.

The second dog, Magic, swallowed a cigarette lighter, a shower head and a 4-inch metal bolt. Magic recovered after the items were surgically removed.
