Methuen man hospitalized after hit-run accident at Union and Railroad streets

METHUEN — A local man is in critical condition in a Boston hospital after he was struck last night by a car, which took off after the accident.

Paul Silva, 33, of Methuen, was crossing Union Street at 9:58 p.m. when a car turning from Railroad Street struck him.

Silva, who was conscious at the scene, told police the car continued driving but then stopped just down the road before taking off again.

Silva was taken by ambulance to a Boston hospital where police said this morning he was in critical condition with a possible spinal injury.

The car was described by Silva as a darkly colored, older-model, mid-sized vehicle. He told police it might have been a taxi or some kind of delivery vehicle and that it may have lost its front, left headlight in the collision.
