Cross Border Expo draws 700 TO NECC

HAVERHILL — Yesterday's Cross Border Business Expo was a success, drawing more than 700 visitors who saw boxing celebrity Micky Ward of Lowell, enjoyed food tastings from local restaurants and chipped in to help with a winter coat drive.

The third-annual event was organized by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and Greater Salem, N.H., Chamber of Commerce. It was hosted by Northern Essex Community College, which opened its sports and fitness center to the expo.

In addition to an appearance by Ward, whose life in Lowell and boxing career was the subject of the popular movie "The Fighter,'' expo visitors were greeted by about 100 vendors and got to see the Red Sox World Series championship trophies from 2004 and 2007. The event also featured a winter coat drive for Ruth's House thrift shop in Haverhill and a raffle with a grand prize of a trip to the Bahamas.

Premier sponsor of the expo was Pentucket Bank. Silver sponsors were Haverhill Bank, Spectrum Marketing, Holy Family Hospital/a Steward Family hospital, and Trinity EMS. In-kind host sponsor was Northern Essex Community College. Media sponsor was The Eagle-Tribune.
