Police seek driver who hit boy in Sandown

SANDOWN — Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a 13-year-old boy Sunday night on Main Street.

The teen was walking north with another 13-year-old boy when he was hit from behind about 7:50 p.m. near 409 Main St., according to Sandown police Sgt. Aurie Roy. The teens' names were not released.

The vehicle, believed to be a white or silver pickup truck, did not stop, Roy said. The boy was struck in the left shoulder by the truck's mirror, but was not seriously injured, she said.

"The back part of the mirror was left at the scene," Roy said.

A passer-by stopped to help the boy and called authorities, Roy said. An ambulance responded, but the teen did not need to be taken to the hospital. The second teen was not hurt.

The boys told police the truck had a loud exhaust system. No other details on the truck or the driver were available.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Sandown police at 887-3887 or the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office at 679-2225.
