WAKEFIELD — The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine has revoked the right of Dr. Salah Abass of Methuen to renew his license to practice medicine following his conviction for assaulting a female employee at his practice.
Abass, of 10 Birch Hill Drive, Methuen, was sentenced in March 2011 in Lawrence District Court to serve one year of a two-year prison sentence. He was convicted of assault and battery and two charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.
Abass was also sentenced to five years of probation an must register as a sex offender.
Abass was arrested by Methuen police on Sept. 23, 2009.
Earlier that month, a nurse who worked for Abass at his 411 Merrimack St. office in Methuen told police that Abass took her into an exam room, closed the door and assaulted her.
The Board also found that Abass falsely claimed on license renewal applications to have been board certified. Abass is a 1985 graduate of the University of Alexandria School of Medicine in Egypt. He specialized in family medicine and was licensed in Massachusetts since 2004.
