At least 14 displaced in early morning fire

LAWRENCE — More than a dozen people were left homeless early this morning in a three-alarm fire that burned between the third floor ceiling and the roof of an apartment building on Park Street, fire officials said.

The three-story building, at 45-47 Park St., has substantial fire damage above the third floor, along with water damage on the lower floors. Fire Chief Jack Bergeron said 14 to 15 people were displaced in the blaze. Firefighters responded to a call just after 2 a.m.

None of the tenants were injured, though two firefighters were treated on scene for minor injuries, Bergeron said.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined, he said, though officials do not suspect "malicious intent."
