Man charged with DUI in police parking lot

WINDHAM — A Tewksbury man was arrested early today after police found him passed out in his running car in the police station parking lot.

A police dispatcher noticed a car in the employee lot at the station at about 1:45 this morning. The car was visible in the restricted lot via a security camera.

Officers found Jonathan Sullivan, 31, in the driver's seat with the engine running, but Sullivan was "passed out," police said.

They woke Sullivan, administered field sobriety tests and conducted an investigation, according to Capt. Michael Caron.

Sullivan was charged with DUI. He would have been released on $500 personal recognizance, but due to "his level of intoxication and inability to make contact with a sober person for his release," Sullivan was taken to the county jail, Caron said.

Sullivan is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 28.

If convicted, he could face a minimum $500 fine, a nine-month loss of his driver's license, and participation in a mandatory drug and alcohol education program.
