LOWELL — UMass Lowell is going Division 1 and joining America East Conference. This will affect all of the school's athletic programs, both male and female.
The school announced yesterday that it has accepted an invitation to join the nine-school conference, which is also home to the University of New Hampshire, University of Maine and University of Vermont.
"This is an important day for this university," said Chancellor Meehan, the former seven-term congressman from Lowell.
