Man dies of injuries suffered in crash

HAMPSTEAD — A 20-year-old man has died of injuries from being struck by a van while riding a non-motorized scooter Monday night.

Kevin Coady of East Hampstead was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, according to a hospital spokeswoman

Coady, who suffered head and other injuries, was flown to the hospital by medical helicopter after he was struck about 5:30 p.m. by a Chrysler van driven by Christina Soucy, 34, of Plaistow, police Lt. John Frazier said.

Coady was passing under a burned-out streetlight on Central Street when the accident occurred, Frazier said. It was dark and Coady was wearing black clothing, he said.

There was no evidence suggesting speed or impairment contributed to the crash, Frazier said. No charges were expected, but the investigation is continuing.
