Andover man died in Route 125 crash

WILMINGTON - State Police police yesterday identified the person killed in a Route 125 head-on car crash as Roberto Leon, 47, of Andover.

At 8:35 p.m. Sunday, troopers from the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to a two-car crash on Route 125 in Wilmington, near the North Reading line.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by Leon crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The Toyota narrowly missed one other car before colliding, head on, into a 2004 Chevrolet K1500 sport utility vehicle. The Wilmington and Andover Fire Departments responded to the scene and determined that Leon was dead at the scene.

The occupants of the SUV, a 43-year old-man and a 12-year-old boy, both of Wilmington, were taken by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Their identities are not being released at this time.

Route 125 was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours to allow for rescue operations, collision reconstruction, and removal of debris and vehicles.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police. Troopers were assisted on scene by the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Photo, Wilmington and Andover Police Departments and Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
