Lawrence murder suspect pleads guilty to manslaughter

LAWRENCE - A city man facing re-trial on a first degree murder trial pleaded guilty to manslaughter this morning.

Erick Rivera, 21, was sentenced to 12 to 13 years in state prison, police said.

Rivera of 174 Osgood St. was arrested in late August 2011 and charged with the murder of Christopher Fischer, 33, of Reading.

In December, Rivera's nearly two week trial on a first degree murder charge ended in a mistrial.

A new trial date was set for April 8.

Rivera was charged with shooting Fischer after he alllegedly pulled a knife on him during a drug deal in a parking lot on South Union Street.
