Man found guilty in crash that killed best friend

BRENTWOOD — A Danville man was convicted today in the negligent homicide death of his best friend in a Derry crash two years ago.

Jurors deliberated for five hours over two days before reaching a verdict in the five-day trial of Cameron Dearborn, 19, in Rockingham Superior Court. Deliberations began at 1 p.m. yesterday before ending for the day shortly before 4 p.m. They resumed at 9 a.m. today.

Dearborn, formerly of Derry, was charged with causing the death of Pinkerton Academy classmate Korey Traficante, 17. The two teens were riding in a car that struck a stone wall and a tree before flipping over on Frost Road the night of Nov. 20, 2010.

Dearborn was not charged in the case until 13 months after the fatal crash. He had been free on $5,000 cash bail.

The defense has contended that Traficante was the driver and not Dearborn. Some witnesses testified that Dearborn, who injured his back, was found in the front seat while Traficante was in the back seat.

Dearborn was convicted on three counts, negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated and negligent homicide-DWI.

Sentencing has not been scheduled.

Dearborn's bail was revoked today and he was sent to the county jail.
