Police investigate stabbing death of Haverhill man

HAVERHILL — State police detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office joined Haverhill police detectives late last night in investigating a fatal stabbing outside a multi-family home at 34 High St.

A 25-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds was found on the sidewalk at about 8:30 p.m. and transported to Lawrence General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, a spokeswoman for the district attorney.

“The victim has not yet been positively identified at this time,” Kimball-Monahan said in a brief statement early today.

Kimball-Monahan said the murder remains under investigation by state police detectives and Haverhill police.

High Street is part of the thickly-settled Mount Washington neighborhood, known for its street crime. Hours after the incident, the Haverhill Police Mobile Command Center along with several cruisers and officers were still at the scene looking for evidence. All that remained of the victim were the disposable gloves worn by paramedics and blood on the sidewalk.

Late last night, Haverhill police issued a bulletin to law enforcement agencies throughout the region to be on the lookout for a black 1998 Honda Accord with a New Hampshire license plate wanted in connection with the murder. They warned that the occupants could be armed and dangerous.

Police later reported that the vehicle had been recovered, but would not say whether anyone had been taken into custody.

Detectives were seen questioning potential witnesses near the scene last night.
