LAWRENCE - Mayor William Lantigua is not conceding he lost the mayoral race to challenger Daniel Rivera, but neither is he asking for a recount at this time.
Lantigua's office had announced by email that he would be making a press statement at 6 p.m. this evening at his campaign headquarters, but his supporters blocked an Eagle-Tribune reporter from entering the office where the mayor was addressing supporters.
Just prior to 6 p.m., Lantigua stood silent beside his attorney outside the campaign headquarters on Essex Street while the lawyer answered media questions.
The lawyer said Lantigua is not at this time conceding he lost the race and said he has 10 days to file for a recount.
Rivera, a city councilor, is claiming he won the race by 60 votes. The ballot boxes are under guard at City Hall.
