SANDOWN — A dog is dead and another is missing after a fire this morning heavily damaged a home on Aruda Road.

Flames broke out shortly after 10 a.m. at 10 Aruda Road and were brought under control in about 20 minutes. No one was home at the time.

One dog was recovered by firefighters were looking for the second, according to Fire Chief Wilfred Tapley.

The one-story home received substantial damage. The cause is not yet known, Tapley said.

Firefighters responded from several towns, including Sandown, Atkinson, Hampstead, Derry, Londonderry, Plaistow and Danville.

The homeowners' names were not released. Town tax records show the home is owned by Thomas Croteau and Shannon Bergeron.
