Fire extinguished in Derry

DERRY — Firefighters knocked down a fire at a Chester Road home this morning.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight on a porch at 121 Chester Road, with flames extending to a wall of the home, according to the Derry Fire Department.

The occupants had evacuated the home by the time firefighters arrived. Firefighters had to tear open interior walls and the ceiling to make sure the fire did not spread.

The fire, declared under control at 12:28 a.m., was reported by a driver passing the home.

The cause remains under investigation. Fire departments in Londonderry, Manchester, Hudson and Salem covered Derry's stations while it responded to the fire.
