Haverhill decides on fireworks tomorrow

Weather may move event from Thursday to Saturday

HAVERHILL — Looking forward to a big Independence Day fireworks display?

You’ll have to wait before finding out when you can enjoy the show.

With Mother Nature threatening rain for the Merrimack Valley over the next couple of days, Haverhill and neighboring communities are bracing to make late decisions about whether their fireworks shows will go on or be delayed.

Here’s a closer look at where they stand:

HAVERHILL

The city’s fireworks are planned for tomorrow at 9:15 p.m. Organizers said they will make a decision very early Thursday morning about whether to move the fireworks and the annual Independence Day festival at Riverside Park to Saturday night.

NORTH ANDOVER

Fireworks are scheduled for tomorrow at dusk at the Middle School. Town officials said they will decide by 1 p.m. today whether the fireworks will be postponed and make a robocall to residents to let them know the plan.

LAWRENCE

Fireworks are scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. at Veterans Memoral Stadium. Organizers will meet today at 4 p.m. to review the weather forecast and decide whether the fireworks will still happen tomorrow. The rain date is July 5 at the same time.

ANDOVER

If the weather does not cooperate, the fireworks display scheduled for tomorrow night will be rescheduled to Saturday. The time and place will remain the same — at dusk over Andover High School on Shawsheen Road. The contingency plans for Friday morning’s Fourth of July Family Fun celebration in The Park at Chestnut and Bartlet streets was up in the air as of yesterday. Plans currently call for a Pancake Breakfast starting at 8 a.m., followed by the annual Horribles Parade stepping off at 9:30 from Doherty Middle School on Bartlet Street. Games in the The Park follow from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Organizers may not make a decision on whether to hold or postpone Friday’s activities until Thursday. Updates will be posted on the town website at www.andoverma.gov.
