Police identify crash victim

ANDOVER — State police have identified the man who died in a single-car crash on Route 125 Saturday night as Peter Silverio, 46, of Methuen.

The 2001 Chevy Astro Van that Silverio was driving veered off the southbound side of the highway and struck a tree about 100 yards north of the state police barracks. He was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital.

The accident happened at around 6 p.m. near Harold Parker and Gould roads. Andover firefighters used a hydraulic device to open the top of the van and remove Silverio. The cause of the crash was still under investigation last night, state police said. Route 125 was closed for two hours Saturday night while a state police accident reconstruction team investigated.
