UPDATE: Two men suffer gunshot wounds

LAWRENCE -- Two men were shot at 20 Bennett St. last night, police said.

Police were alerted to the shootings when a caller reported a "man down" on Bennett Street, police Chief John Romero said. Officers followed a trail of blood to a second-floor apartment and believe that's where the shooting took place, Romero said.

While interviewing residents of the 4-story building, police found a man in a first-floor apartment who also had been shot, the chief said.

The first victim was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, then airlifted to a Boston hospital where he's in critical condition, Romero said. The second victim, taken to Lawrence General, had non-life-threatening injuries, Romero said.
