Lawrence's Bailey Street fire substation broken into

LAWRENCE — A Fire Department substation on Bailey Street was broken into sometime Saturday night or yesterday morning, Chief Jack Bergeron said.

Firefighters discovered the break yesterday morning when they were making a daily check of the facility, the chief said. An inventory of the stolen items had not been completed as of last night, he added.

There were no fire engines in the building at the time of the break-in, he said. The Bailey Street facility is not an active station, he explained, but it is used to store equipment.

Entrance was gained by breaking a window, Bergeron said. Police are investigating the break-in.
