---- — BOSTON — A North Andover man has been charged with assaulting a woman on a train.
Scott Robinson, 40, was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court yesterday on a charge of indecent assault. A woman riding an the Orange Line at around 9:50 a.m. Monday reported being touched inappropriately as the train was pulling into North Station, according to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Transit Police.
The alleged victim was able to get a good look at the perpetrator and contacted the Transit Police, according to that agency.
After an investigation, Transit Police detectives arrested Robinson yesterday at the MBTA’s Wellington Station in Medford. He was then transported to the Transit Police headquarters and booked.
Noting that the arrest occurred within 48 hours of the alleged assault, Transit Police Superintendent Joseph O’Connor said, “This was good police work by our detectives.”
The Transit Police have been conducting a sexual assault awareness campaign, in which they encourage riders to report incidents of indecent touching, he said.
O’Connor said he and others in the Transit Police suspect that sexual assaults on public transportation are underreported. Victims feel embarrassed and so are reluctant to come forward, he pointed out.
“We applaud anyone who comes forward and reports an incident such as this,” O’Connor said.
