Police dog sniffs out Lawrence man after Andover crash

By Dustin Luca

---- — ANDOVER — A 22-year-old Lawrence man accused of driving well over the speed limit on Interstate 93 triggered a two-department search in the woods of southwest Andover early yesterday afternoon when he crashed his car on Dascomb Road and bailed out, police said.

State Police arrested Danny Burgos, of 306 Howard St., Lawrence, after Burgos drove at a high rate of speed past a state trooper on I-93 North in Andover, according to Trooper Robert Macallister.

Burgos is charged by state police with operating a motor vehicle while unlicensed and negligent operation, Macallister said. Andover police, who helped search for Burgos, do not expect to file any additional charges, Andover Police Sgt. Mark Higginbottom said.

State police don’t have a record of how fast Burgos was going, but after they tried pursuing him, he got off the highway at Dascomb Road, according to Higginbottom.

While on Dascomb Road, Burgos crashed his car and fled on foot into the woods, according to Macallister.

Once he was in the woods, state police reached out to Andover police for help continuing the search. The department set up a perimeter around several roads in the area, including Brasswood Lane, Buttonwood Drive and Partridge Hill Road, Higginbottom said.

Eventually, state police brought in a dog to track down Burgos, Higginbottom said.

Burgos surrendered when he heard the dog closing in on him, according to Macallister.
