Valley bandit strikes again

Hits Tewksbury TD Bank

By Paul Tennant

---- — TEWKSBURY — The “Merrimack Valley Bandit,” who has committed seven armed bank robberies in the area since February, may have pulled off his eighth heist.

This time, the TD Bank at 2345 Main St. was held up at 7:45 p.m. yesterday. State and local police as well as the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force, along with police dogs, were hunting for the suspect last night.

The suspect, described by police as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, entered the bank carrying a handgun and demanded money from tellers. He left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police Chief Timothy Sheehan said in a press release the suspect was seen leaving the bank on foot. He was described as wearing a black jacket, a black mask and dark pants. The chief said it appears this robbery is similar to the seven robberies in Methuen, Dracut, Lawrence and Groveland.

Law enforcement officials are offering an award of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the robber.

Anyone with information regarding the robberies should call the FBI at 617-742-5533, Lawrence Police at 978-794-5900, Methuen Police at 978-983-8698, Dracut Police at 978-957-2123 or Groveland Police at 978-521-1212.
