Youth arrested after release from protective custody

By Paul Tennant

---- — NORTH ANDOVER — A youth who had been released from protective custody only a few hours later was arrested at 7:45 a.m. Friday after causing a disturbance at his home, police said.

Ryan Saraiva, 17, of 39 Stonington St., was charged with destruction of property, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Officer Christopher Smedile made the arrest.

Police were called to Saraiva’s home at 1:21 a.m. to quell a disturbance there, according to the police log. Officers did not arrest Saraiva at that time but placed him in protective custody.

After he was released from protective custody, Saraiva walked home and caused another disturbance, according to police Lt. Charles Gray. He also fought with the officers who responded, Gray said.

At Saraiva’s arraignment in Lawrence District Court later that day, he was ordered held in lieu of $500 cash bail, according to Gray.

Saraiva is known to local police, Gray said. Saraiva was arrested Nov. 2 at North Andover High School and charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing a school assembly and resisting arrest.

Just a few weeks earlier, on Sept. 17, he was arrested at 32 Royal Crest Drive and charged with malicious destruction of property over $250, disorderly conduct, two counts of assault and battery on household member.
