Pedestrian struck in Derry

DERRY— At least one man was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car on East Broadway near MaryAnn’s Diner yesterday morning.

The man was with two children around 9:30 a.m., according to police Capt. Vern Thomas. He said he didn’t know where the man was when he was struck, nor whether anyone else was hit.

An officer at the scene said “a few people” were transported to the hospital. Thomas said he didn’t have a full report as of yesterday afternoon and could offer very few details.

Thomas did not identify the driver of the car that struck the man, nor identify what kind of vehicle it was.

A woman was seen crying and being consoled shortly after the crash. She said she didn’t want to talk about the crash yesterday.

A waitress from MaryAnn’s brought a chair out and the woman sat on the sidewalk there while police investigated.

Thomas said he didn’t know whether the driver would be charged, but he would have more information today.
