Budget, teacher's contract passes in Timberlane

Last week, Timberlane Regional School District Superintendent Dr. Earl Metzler urged voters to pass the teachers’ contract and the operating budget. He got his wish last night.

Voters passed the $64.4 million operating budget, 1,952-1,193. The three-year teachers’ contract passed 1,646-1,501.

Metzler put out a video presentation to parents last week, detailing the two proposed items.

“We want to make sure we invest in our kids,” Metzler said.

At the polls, the teachers were at the forefront of many voters’ minds.

“The schools are the most important thing we have to vote for today,” Kathy Quimby of Plaistow said. “We need to make sure we support the teachers.”

Kelley Fox of Plaistow also supported the teachers’ contract.

“The teachers deserve more money,” she said. “I’d like to see that happen.”

Although it failed in Hampstead, the School Administrative Unit budget will be voted on by the public. The article passed in Timberlane, making the combined total of the two districts, 2,544-2,072.

The district opted to put $200,000 into the school’s capital reserve fund to be used for reconstruction, 675-412. The district’s voters also passed a fund balance retention program, 1,955-1,073.

Nancy Steenson of Danville, Rick Blair of Plaistow and Kelly Ward of Sandown all were elected to the School Board unopposed.
