State Police chase van, apprehend driver on Route 213 in Methuen

METHUEN — State police chased a van from Marston Street in Lawrence, to Merrimack Street and out onto Interstate-495 before following and stopping it on Route 213 east just before the Howe Street exit.

The chase, which lasted about 20 minutes, ended with the driver in custody of State Police. The van was stopped in the breakdown lane of Route 213, surrounded by State Police.

It was searched and towed from the scene, police said.

The driver was the only person in custody. It is not known yet why he was being chased or what he is being charged with.

Neither Methuen nor Lawrence police were involved.
