Plaistow lawyer charged with raping teen

KINGSTON — A lawyer has been charged with giving a 15-year-old vodka and raping him on a boat on Country Pond two years ago.

Lawrence Buswell Jr., 52, of 11 Lions Way in Kingston, faces two counts of statutory rape, three counts of sexual assault and a single charge of providing alcohol to a minor.

Buswell was arrested on a warrant by Kingston police last month in connection with an incident that occurred between July 1, 2011, and Aug. 5, 2011. He was released on $50,000 personal recognizance and is to be arraigned July 8 in 10th Circuit Court in Plaistow.

The boy, now 17, told police in August 2012 that Buswell gave him two shots of Smirnoff sour apple vodka and then took him out on his boat, according to Kingston police Officer Christopher LaBrecque.

LaBrecque said in an affidavit the boy knew Buswell because the teen and his family had camped at Country Shore Camping Area for 11 years. Buswell is the campground owner’s son.

The boy told police that while he was on the boat with Buswell, he jumped into the pond wearing only boxer shorts. When the teen climbed back into the boat, Buswell wrapped the boy in a towel, grabbed his genitals and yanked off his boxers, the affidavit said.

Buswell then forced the boy to perform sexual acts and raped him, according to LaBrecque.

The police officer interviewed several families who visit the campground and was told Buswell often took boys out on his boat.

Police had trouble contacting Buswell for months, LaBrecque said, even though he maintains a law office on Main Street in Plaistow.

Buswell did not return calls yesterday seeking comment.

If convicted, Buswell faces three and a half to seven years in state prison on each of the two rape charges. The three sexual assault charges and the single alcohol charge are misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in the county jail on each count.
