Passerby rescue woman from burning truck

NORTH HAMPTON — They got involved and they saved a life.

At around 12:25 p.m. yesterday, a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck struck a piece of construction equipment parked along the side of Interstate 95 and caught fire.

Witnesses to the accident pulled the driver from the cab after smashing out the rear window, state police said. The driver, Amy Strong, 20, of Hampton, was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

While the cause of the accident remains under investigation, neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been contributing factors, state police said.

Assisting State Police Troop A were the North Hampton Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this crash is encouraged to call Trooper Timothy Sawyer at Troop A, 603-223-8490.
