Derry bank robbery suspect to be arraigned

Police: Robber demanded cash, fled

DERRY — A homeless man will be arraigned this morning for robbing TD Bank on Manchester Road yesterday morning.

Lucien P. Goguen, 49, was captured shortly after 11:30 a.m. while standing in the middle of Scobie Pond Road, a couple of hundred yards from the bank, Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas said. He did not run, Thomas said.

Goguen allegedly entered the bank about 11:25 a.m. and handed a teller a grocery bag and a note demanding money, Thomas said.

He did not display a weapon and fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash, Thomas said. No one was injured

Numerous police cruisers responded to the bank, wrapping black and yellow crime scene tape around its perimeter. Bank employees were not allowed to leave the bank for at least a couple of hours while police investigated.

Police questioned anyone who had been in the parking lot at the time.

But less than 10 minutes later, Goguen was in custody after being tracked down behind the bank and Hannaford grocery store.

Goguen matched the physical description given by bank employees, who said he had gray hair and was between 50 and 60 years old.

But the clothing Goguen was wearing did not match the description, Thomas said.

A New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit was called in to assist.

Trooper 1st Class Aaron Eder-Linell and his dog, Kody, searched the woods, finding clothing, the bag and money in the woods off Scobie Pond Road.

“He led us to the location,” Eder-Linell said.

The clothing matched the description given by bank employees, Thomas said.

The bank remained closed yesterday afternoon.

Ozzy Uysal of Derry sat outside the bank with his 11-month-old daughter, Sofia. His wife, Sabrina, is a bank employee and wasn’t allowed to leave until police completed their investigation.

He was relieved to hear she was not hurt.
