Police seize heroin in Andover

ANDOVER — State Police from the Andover Barracks seized a kilo of heroin during a traffic stop on Interstate 93 South Wednesday. Johnny V. Nunez, 31, of Roxbury, was charged with trafficking in heroin, no inspection sticker and a marked lanes violation.

Trooper James McTeague noticed drug paraphernalia inside the Acura MDX that Nunez was driving after stopping the car for the motor vehicle violations, according to state police. Trooper Brian Cooper and K9 Drako discovered the heroin while assisting McTeague in the search of the Acura, police said.

A detective assigned to the Lawrence Police Department’s Street Narcotics Unit said a kilo — 2.2 pounds — of heroin has a potential street value of $190,000 if cut up and sold in smaller amounts. If sold wholesale and uncut, it would be worth $50,000 to $60,000, according to the detective.
