Four students arrested on drug charges at North Andover High

NORTH ANDOVER – Four students, all juvenile boys, were arrested and charged with drug offenses at North Andover High School Thursday afternoon.

A 14-year-old was charged with possession and distribution of a Class E drug. A 15-year-old was also charged with distribution of a Class E drug while two other 15-year-olds were charged with conspiracy to violate the drug laws.

The four boys were booked at the police station, then released to “third parties,” according to the police log.

Class E drug charges are filed for lighter doses of prescription narcotics containing codeine, morphine or opium, according to the Massachusetts Criminal Defense Resource Page.

The four boys were arrested by Patrolman Brendan Gallagher, school resource officer. They were arrested a few minutes before 1 p.m.

Police spokesman Lt. Charles Gray said he could not comment on a school arrest.

Superintendent Kevin Hutchinson could not be reached for comment yesterday.

A month ago, two students, ages 16 and 17, were arrested on drug charges at the high school.

An hour and a half later, in an unrelated episode, another student was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing a school assembly and resisting arrest.

The 17-year-old became enraged when an assistant principal asked him to go to the nurse’s office to determine if he was under the influence of a drug, according to a report Gallagher filed with Lawrence District Court.

At that time, Hutchinson said school authorities cooperate with the police and that parents need not fear for the safety of their children.
