Fire damages home on Columbus Avenue, Methuen

METHUEN — A 2-alarm fire broke out this morning around 8 a.m. at 23 Columbus Ave., causing extensive damage to the interior of the single-family home, according to fire officials on scene.

The fire appears to have started in the basement of the house, located at the end of a cul-de-sac. Nobody was home at the time of the incident.

Firefighters at the scene said the fire burned through the first floor of house and caused extensive damage to the rest of the house. The fire was contained to the interior.
