Methuen woman pistol-whipped during home invasion

METHUEN — Police said a 22-year-old city woman was pistol-whipped during an armed home invasion on Grove Street late this morning.

Police Chief Joseph Solomon said a K9 unit is on scene searching the area for suspects. The woman was transported to Holy Family Hospital with head injuries and is expected to be airlifted to a Boston hospital, he said.

"It is believed the victim was targeted," said Solomon. "It wasn't a random act."

Solomon said at least one suspect fled the scene on foot.

The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m.
