MBTA, colleges, Amtrak all shut down

---- — As police search for the second bombing suspect the city and surrounding communities are grinding to a halt.

The Associated Press had identified the surviving suspect as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge.

The MBTA has suspended service until further notice. People are asked not to congregate at stations and bus stops. Officials ask people to go home.

Communities surrounding Watertown, where the search is centralized, are affected. Residents of Watertown, Newton, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge and Allston/Brighton are told to stay in their homes until further notice.

Amtrak service is temporarily suspended between Boston and Providence, R.I.

Boston University, Boston College, Harvard, MIT, Emerson, Bentley, UMass Boston, Suffolk, Wellsley and other colleges and universities are closed until further notice.
