Crash on I-93 causes delays

Reports coming in of people stuck traffic for more than 50 minutes

ANDOVER — Traffic slowed to a crawl on both directions of Route 93 after a two-truck crash on the northbound side at exit 43, Lowell Street, reduced northbound traffic to one lane during rush-hour.

Involved in the crash was a small tanker truck with extensive front-end damage and a trash-carrying truck with Republic Services of Tyngsborough, which showed minor to moderate damage to its back-end.

One person was transported to Lawrence General Hospital from the scene, according to police scanner reports.

The state highway department and Dept. Of Environmental Protection were called to the scene after it was reported that the tanker truck leaked anywhere from 30 to 40 gallons of gasoline.

Traffic was backed up to beyond exit 39 of Route 93 northbound as crews cleared the scene, according to the state Dept. of Transportation. An on-ramp to Route 93 from Lowell Street was also closed while responders were on the scene.
