Delivery man robbed of his money and his pizza

HAVERHILL — Police said a pizza delivery man was robbed of his money and the pizza he was delivering by two men, one of whom had a gun Tuesday night.

The incident happened in front of a home on Varnum Street and was reported to police at 9:47 p.m.

Police Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said a Boston Pizza Company delivery driver went to a home on Varnum Street in the Mount Washington neighborhood to deliver a pizza. The driver parked his car in front of the home, where a man was sitting on the front porch. The driver asked the man if it was his pizza, and the man told the driver that he didn’t order any pizza.

“Almost immediately another man ran up to the pizza delivery man’s car, displayed a semi-automatic handgun and demanded all the money from the delivery man,” Thompson said.

The pizza delivery man, who is in his 50s, was hesitant to turn over any money. Thompson said the man who was sitting on the porch grabbed the delivery man by the shirt and ripped off a silver chain that was around his neck.

“They took the man’s money (about $200) and the pizza, then they ran down Varnum Street,” Thompson said.

Boston Pizza Company is at 150 Washington St. in downtown Haverhill.
