Salem buildings are without water

SALEM — A ruptured pipe left part of town without water today, including Town Hall, Salem High School and 10th Circuit Court.

A break in a 12-inch line near the high school occurred about 10 a.m., according to public works director Rick Russell.

Water had been restored by 1 p.m. to Town Hall, part of the high school, Salemhaven and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Salem, Russell said. There was still no water at the courthouse and a section of the high school.

A crew of six employees was replacing the broken cast-iron pipe about 1:30 p.m., Russell said. It had not been determined how the break occurred, he said.

Russell said he expected all water to be restored by tonight.
