Location of Brenda Savary's fundraiser changed due to response from community

NORTH ANDOVER — Brenda Savary suffered a serious head injury when she fell down the stairs in her home May 26 and now faces a long recovery.

Her family and friends have rallied behind her to such an extent that a fundraiser originally planned for the Knights of Columbus Hall on Sutton Street had to be moved to a larger place, Relief’s In on Market Street in Lawrence.

The date and time are the same: Friday, Oct. 18, from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Savary, 55, was in a coma for six weeks but has regained consciousness, said her sister-in-law, Nancy Pierro. She was at Kindred Hospital in Peabody and is now a patient at Northeast Rehabilitation Center in Salem, N.H. Savary’s plight is complicated by the fact that her husband, David Savary, is disabled due to a heart attack he suffered several years ago and cannot work.

Savary, a buyer at Raytheon, has been the sole breadwinner for her family as well as the health insurance provider. Pierro said it’s doubtful Savary will be able to return to work. She is a lifelong resident of North Andover. She has served on the Commission of Disability Issues.

Savary can talk and is starting to walk but she still needs constant care, said Pierro, a nurse at Lawrence General Hospital, said.Savary and her family face huge medical bills.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $20 each. Savary is a lifelong resident of North Andover. She has served on the Commission of Disability Issues.
