New float welcome on Cobbetts Pond

Swimmers enjoy new float on Cobbetts Pond

---- — WINDHAM — A new float is making a big splash at the town beach on Cobbetts Pond.

“The kids love it, everyone loves it,” recreation coordinator Cheryl Haas said. “So many people are commenting.”

Selectman Kathleen DiFruscia publicly highlighted the float’s recent installation during this week’s board meeting.

“Living on Cobbetts Pond, everybody over there is really thrilled and all the children that have an opportunity to use the town beach,” DiFruscia said.

Haas said the float was custom made by Granite State Dock and Marine in Derry.

“This is a nice, big float,” Haas said.

Scott Buckland, owner of Granite State Dock and Marine, said the aluminum floating swim raft is 12-by-12 feet.

It includes polymer fiberglass decking.

“Cool to your feet when you are stepping on it on a hot summer day,” Buckland said.

The float also has a stainless steel ladder.

“They got themselves a pretty nice swim raft,” he said.

Haas is especially pleased with the washable surface, an important feature when gulls and ducks admire the float as much as the kids.

“It is easily scrubbed,” Haas said.

The new float cost about $6,000. Haas said it’s not only larger than its 8-by-10-foot predecessor, but modern and stable.

The float is expected to serve the town for many years.

“We were told this is going to last over 20 years,” Haas said.

“They won’t be buying another swim raft anytime soon,” Buckland said.

The town intends to sell the old float.

DiFruscia praised members of the Recreation Committee, Dennis Senibaldi in particular, for their work on the float project.
