Motorcyclist dies in Hampstead crash

HAMPSTEAD — A 25-year-old local man was killed last night when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Central Street.

Shawn Bisson of 16 Steeple Chase Road died from his injuries at Parkland Medical Center in Derry after the 5:14 p.m. accident, according to Hampstead police Sgt. Rick Chambers.

The crash occurred when Bisson, driving a Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle, was heading south on Central Street and collided with a red Ford 150 truck driven by Arnold Sheltar, 73, of 179 Central St. in Hampstead, Chambers said.

Sheltar had just pulled out of his driveway to head north on Central Street, Chambers said. He was not injured.

Central Street was closed to traffic for at least two hours, and bright yellow police tape was strung around the crash scene as officers investigated the accident. Pieces of the crushed motorcycle lay in the roadway.

"It was probably a couple of hours before it was cleared," Chambers said.

Hampstead police called in Salem's accident reconstruction team. It has not been determined who was at fault, Chambers said. The cause is still being investigated.

Chambers said Bisson, who was taken to the hospital by Trinity Ambulance, was wearing a helmet. Another fatal accident occurred in that same area a few years ago, he said.

This was the third serious motorcycle accident in Hampstead this year and the second fatal crash.

On June 26, Marceline Weaver, 49, of Salem was killed on Route 111 when a sport utility vehicle driven by a Windham man plowed into a group of motorcyclists participating in the Knight Memorial Ride.

Two other motorcyclists were hurt, including one who suffered a serious leg injury and was flown to a Boston hospital. Randall Stewart, 46, was later charged with negligent homicide, reckless conduct and aggravated driving while intoxicated, police said.

A week later, Walter Leskiw, 61, of Sandown was trying out a new motorcycle on Route 111 when he collided with a sport utility vehicle and then a Mazda, police said. He suffered serious injuries and was flown to Boston for treatment.
