Police ID shooting victims

LAWRENCE — Police have identified two city men shot Friday night near the MVRTA transportation center at the corner of Merrimack and South Union streets.

Police said Ariel Lopez, 24, and Angel Cabrera, 21, were shot around 11 p.m. in what may be a gang-related incident. Both men sustained non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Lopez told police he was shot twice while sitting in his vehicle at 12 Portland St., according to a police report. Police said he when they found Lopez he was bleeding from his chin and left hip.

Police found Cabrera, who was shot in the buttocks, a short time later at the commuter rail station. Six spent 9MM gun shot casings were recovered from the scene.

Both men were taken to Lawrence General Hospital.
