Salem police seeking armed robber

SALEM — Police are looking for a man who robbed a pizza deliveryman and threatened to kill him.

The robbery occurred about 8 p.m. Sunday near an apartment complex on Cluff Crossing Road, according to Deputy police Chief Shawn Patten.

The 21-year-old deliveryman told police he was delivering food when a man suddenly approached him from behind and put him in a headlock.

The robber said he had a knife and told the deliveryman he would kill him if he didn’t hand over all his money, Patten said.

The deliveryman told police he felt a sharp object pressing against the back of his neck. The robber fled on foot with approximately $150 to $180, Patten said.

A neighbor opened his apartment door and saw the suspect running down the hallway and out a door, he said.

A police dog was used to search for the suspect, but the trail ended at a nearby building, Patten said.

The suspect is described as stocky, about 6 feet 1 inches tall and in his mid-20s. He has stubby facial hair and was wearing a black hat and jacket, Patten said.

Anyone with information on this man is asked to call Salem police at 893-1911 or Southern New Hampshire Crimeline at 893-6600.
