---- — CONCORD — State Rep. Marilinda Garcia, R-Salem, formally launched her candidacy for Congress yesterday by announcing support from 70 state lawmakers.

Garcia, highlighting concern over the federal debt, is challenging Democratic incumbent first-term Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster in the 2nd District.

“With a $17 trillion debt and government policies like ‘ObamaCare’ that are driving up the cost of health care for middle class families, it is time for a new generation of ideas in Washington,” Garcia said.

Among Republican legislators supporting Garcia are Patrick Bick, Robert Elliott, John Sytek, Joe Sweeney and her sister, Bianca Garcia, of Salem; Ken Weyler of Kingston; Mary Griffin and Charlie McMahon of Windham; Dan Tamburello and Al Baldasaro of Londonderry; Frank Sapareto of Derry; Deb DeSimone of Atkinson; Jeff Oligny of Plaistow; and Shawn Jasper and Lynne Ober of Hudson who also represents Pelham.

The endorsement from Elliott was a plus for Garcia. The two had disagreed last year over allowing casino gaming in New Hampshire. Garcia was opposed; Elliott a leading proponent.
