'Farm' inmate still missing

LAWRENCE — A prisoner from the Correctional Alternative Center who walked off his work detail last Thursday night hasn’t been captured yet.

Reford Watkins, 35, formerly of Danvers, was serving a 17-month sentence for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and vandalism before his recent transfer to the minimum security jail off Marston Street, also known as “The Farm.”

Essex County Sheriff’s Department correctional officers went to the Haverhill Country Club at about 9 p.m. last Thursday to pick Watkins up at the end of his work release, but he had disappeared, according to Assistant Superintendent Maurice E. Pratt, who said the inmate should be considered potentially dangerous.

“The assault and battery charge stemmed from an incident in which Mr. Watkins was sitting on a milk crate drinking alcohol with a friend. The two argued and Mr. Watkins threw a milk crate at his friend, striking him,” Pratt said.
