Salem police seek driver who tried to lure girl

SALEM — Police are looking for a man they say tried to coax a 14-year-old girl into his car while she waited at a bus stop this morning.

The incident occurred about 7:15 on Lou Avenue near School Street, according to Deputy Chief Shawn Patten.

The man is described as white, in his 30s, wearing a green button-down shirt and having "mousy" facial features and orange hair. He stopped and asked if the girl wanted a ride to school, Patten said.

The man told the girl he knew her parents, but she declined the ride and the car drove off. The girl immediately called her father, who then called police, Patten said.

The car is a white, four-door sedan believed to have New Hampshire license plates.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Salem police at 893-1911 or Southern NH Crimeline at 890-6600.
