Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

By Paul Tennant

---- — METHUEN — A loud exhaust system led to the arrest of two men on drug charges, police said.

Officer Arthur Hardy observed a car making a loud noise on Woodland Street at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, police Capt. Randy Haggar said. Hardy followed the vehicle and pulled it over on Haverhill Street near the Merrimack Plaza.

The driver of the car appeared to be very nervous and the passenger would not show his hands, Haggar said. After being questioned, the driver admitted he had some pills, the captain said.

The driver, John Borodowka, 25, of 158 Primrose Hill Road, Dracut, was arrested and charged with possession of Percocets, a Class B drug, and possession of the drug with intent to distribute. He was also charged with defective equipment because of the loud exhaust system.

The passenger, Justin Gawlik, 26, of 64 Tennis Plaza Road, apartment 13, Dracut, was arrested andcharged with possession of Percocets. Borodowka had 50 Percocet pills in his possession, Haggar said.

The captain noted that Borodowka and Gawlik were stopped in a high-crime area. He lauded Hardy and Officer Matthew Mueskes for making “a great pinch.”

Borodowka and Gawlik were released on their own recognizance pending arraignment in Lawrence District Court on Wednesday.
