Three alleged shoplifters arrested

NORTH ANDOVER — Police arrested three alleged shoplifters at the North Andover Mall on Friday and Sunday afternoons.

All three are accused of stealing merchandise from Kohl’s Department Store.

Two men who were in a landscaping truck were arrested by Officer Julie Nigro at 3:07 p.m. Friday. Besides shoplifting, Carlos Diaz, 42, of 50 1/2 Common St., Lawrence; and Luis Mendez, 37, of 176 Jackson St., Lawrence, were each charged with an open container violation.

Breanna Sabet, 20, of 297 Andover St., was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Sunday by Officer Eric Sewade.

Police Lt. Charles Gray said both Nigro and Sewade were assigned to directed patrols near the Route 114 mall when the alleged thefts occurred. Chief Paul Gallagher, he said, ordered that the directed patrols be enhanced during the holiday season, when shoplifting tends to increase.

The result, he said, is that “we’re there when it happens.”
